Control of Magnesium and other Impurities in Limestone
Limestone is an important industrial mineral used in construction, industrial processes and agriculture. Often, processing of limestone requires control or removal of impurities like clays, silica, magnesium carbonate, iron compounds and etc. Therefore, continuous online monitoring of CaO, MgO, SiO2, Al2O3, Fe2O3 and other elements directly on the conveyor is essential when handling limestone. LIBS technology excels in limestone analysis as it can measure the concentrations of all the required elements, especially in cases where the MgO concentration is needed in real time, as other techniques, such as PGNAA and XRF, are not capable of providing it. Magnesium yields strong signals in the LIBS spectrum, which are clearly separated from the signals of calcium and other elements.
